Just Checking is designed to personalize your checkbook in addition to basic home bookkeeping features for only $14.95. It functions like a checkbook register with extra options to create and print several kinds of personal income and expense reports.
Though an excellent choice for home bookkeeping and check creation, this program is a little harder to use than our higher–ranked programs like our #1 product, VersaCheck.
Just Checking offers check design templates that you can customize by changing the font style and color and adding or subtracting check fields. In addition you can scan in your signature to print with your checks and preview your checks before they are printed.
Just Checking also includes bookkeeping features. For example, you can write checks from multiple bank accounts and the program will automatically update your account balances. You can also include check data from other software programs, search for specific checks, setup recurring payments and view or print out a check history.
Just Checking has a full menu toolbar, icons and a nice graphical user interface (GUI) to help you navigate the program. The user–friendly layout will allow you to learn the program on your own, but some of the steps required to customize and print checks may be a little confusing. If so, you can use the help menu to search for specific help topics.
You can easily download Just Checking from the Justapps website. The download is free so you can try out the program before you buy, but you won’t be able to print anything until you purchase a registration code to unlock the program. The setup won’t be complete until you download (for free) and install a zip file containing a MICR font.
To print checks you will need an inkjet or laser printer, check stock and a MICR (magnetic) toner cartridge. Financial institutions use the MICR line and magnetic toner to process checks. If your check does not have an MICR line you will incur costly fees from rejected checks.
Just Checking will work with Windows 98 and higher.
Just Checking does not come with a user’s guide, but the program is easy to learn with the help menu. The manufacturer’s website also doesn’t provide FAQs or telephone support, but you can reach them by email. We emailed several questions and they responded with helpful answers within 24 hours.
